Ah, the roots of Yule are fully celebrating in its authentic Celtic manor here with this appropriately titled market. The event is, of course absolutely free and running from Thursday 26th November 2015 To Sunday 30th November,  10:00 – 17:00.

Christmas at Chirk Castle

The run up to Christmas will be hosted courtesy of the Castle of Chirk. From the 12th of December to the 24th. The fortress will be adorned with decorations and festivities that aren’t to go unappreciated by the castle’s aficionados. The main medieval Christmas events will be held on the weekends of the 12/13th, and the 19th /20th.

A smorgasbord of archaic merriment is to be found, including a gaggle of medieval characters consorting in the courtyard, a variety of craft workshops that you never you always wanted to try, such as candle making, table centres, and leather working. Medieval food and drink to play jester with your senses. Authentic mummer’s plays.

Treat your ears to live performed medieval music from minstrels plucked from time. If you’re one for a challenge then it’s down to you to follow the Christmas trail, who knows where it may lead? All this will have the ideal setting of the castle, dressed in medieval style festive dressings. It is events like this, which you will look back on, fondly over the years, as we do today of the medieval period.

The Welsh Mountain Zoo

Every year, on the 24th of December, Christmas Eve, the Welsh Mountain Zoo’s entrance fee drops from £9.95 for adults and 7.50 for kids to only £3 per person. What better way to spend Christmas Eve then for a family trip, romantic tour or solo expedition to the wonderful national zoo of wales.

Many of the zoo’s animals are from colder climates, such as the Snow Leopards, and so are very happy to be out and about in the wintry weather. So, why not make a flask of mulled wine, prep with a bit of David Attenborough and venture out into this famous zoological garden. It is sure to renew your fascination with wildlife and provide an unforgettable, charming day out. Greenwood Forest Park

The park is given a new life in the colder months; expect a visit from the one and only Father Christmas in his freshly fashioned seasonal grotto. Throughout the end of November and December Santa will be available every weekend and occasionally within the week. There will also be ‘Santa Brunch’ and ‘Santa’s afternoon tea’ events to attend. If you’re keen for a fun woodland day out, sprinkled with Christmas magic, then Greenwood Forest park is the ideal place for a seasonal outing.
