If there’s one thing the town of Conwy does well, it’s being the host of fantastic events throughout the year. One event which is still a fairly recent addition but has proved to be a popular and much-loved weekend is the Conwy Pirate Weekend.
For those in holiday and caravan parks near Llandudno, Conwy is only a short distance away. Even if you haven’t taken your car with you on holiday, there are plenty of public transport options which will take you right into the centre of the town.
Returning for its sixth year, the event will be taking place between Saturday the 27th and Monday the 29th of May. During the Pirate Weekend, all visitors are strongly encouraged to arrive in their very best pirate costume – adults very much included!
Last year saw over ten thousand keen pirates descend onto the docks of Conwy, a big number for quite a small town. Throughout the weekend, there were a variety of events, races and food & drink stalls to enjoy. A large pirate band will also be parading up and down the town, providing live entertainment.
The stalls on the quay will be hosted by local businesses, and gives you the chance to sample fresh food and locally-produced drinks. We’re sure there will be plenty of rum to go around throughout the weekend!
Each year, a competition is held for the ‘Best Dressed Pirates’. If you’ve got a costume to be proud of, enter the photo booth next to the Smugglers Tavern on the quay to be in with a chance of winning some great prizes. There’s different categories depending on your age.
The entire weekend is completely free to attend, but donations (or perhaps dubloons, in this case) are welcomed by the organisers in order to keep the event running for years to come.
The event is a fantastic day out for both adults and children, and is unique to the town of Conwy. If you’ll be staying at a caravan park nearby this summer, the Conwy Pirate Weekend is not one to be missed.
